Bio: Yes, he is my husband. While he may not have the certified papers, his mechanical engineering and tennis instructor background give him the street cred for providing healthy-living tips. He comes from a beautiful blended family, each parent is an amazing chef so he grew up eating right and always enjoyed staying in shape. Andrew has a natural affinity for good food and is becoming quite the cook. He loves to grill out, charcoal not gas. If it involves outdoors, he’s game.
With an undergrad at Georgia Tech, Andrew is going back for his MBA full-time. It seems that in class he actually paid attention and he applies his background in science and math with his knowledge of nutrition. He knows how the body works and can break down information that is easy for me to digest. I don’t speak in molecules.
Andrew is gangbusters at customizing a workout for anyone based on their needs. He knows what muscles to trigger and the appropriate weights you should be using. He is always barking that you get the most in gain in your first lift. He’s helped me break into lifting weights and now I don’t flinch when I see a new machine, I’m not the only amateur at the gym. I sometimes refer to the routines he gives me as, “Body by Andy.” Upon completing a “Body by Andy” session it’s highly likely that I won’t be able to blow dry my hair or do a ponytail for like a week.
A few guidelines he’s established for me over the years:
– Don’t look at calories. How about you check out the saturated fat and other important parts to the label.
– Read men’s fitness magazines. Men’s mags are often filled with better tips and workouts. Even if you are a girl, chances of you bulking up are slim to none. Women’s bodies don’t have enough testosterone to make you look like She-rah if you are only steady lifting a few days a week.
– Burn more than you put in. Sad that it’s that simple, but A’s ADD keeps his body going like a furnace.
– Focus on your form during workouts. You know what he’s talking about – the people who are keeled over on the stair-climber, people that look like there backs could snap at any minute with one more lift. If your form is off, your are taking away from over half of your workout performance.
