Friday Five

Say hello to mid-May. Holy cow.

1. I’M WATCHING: Hold on to your calves, get a gander at the footage from the Miwok 100. The Miwok 100K is very hilly (approximately 12,000 feet of cumulative elevation gain) with spectacular views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge, Mt. Tamalpais and the Point Reyes National Seashore. Did y’all catch that? 100k as in kilometres, as in 62.2 miles and not for the faint of heart.

2. I’M READING: Fifty Shades of Grey. Well I have it, but not sure if I’m ready to start reading.

3. I’M PINNING: Murphy’s Law of Running, priceless.

4. I’M LISTENING TO: Florence and the Machine’s Breath of Life‘ for ‘Snow White and The Huntsman.’ Move over Mickey.

5. I’M EATING: Frozen Yogurt: I am a massive nut for froyo, and Adonia Greek Frozen Yogurt by Ciao Bella is the absolute perfect summertime any time treat. So many flavors to try…

Pick a topic, any topic, and tell me what you’re up to this week!?

Cinco de Mayo, The Kentucky Derby…woowee, this weekend is going to be mucho busy.

1. I’M WATCHING: To promote an upcoming campaign, Discovery Channel has set up an intimate 24-hour camera at the “Penguin Encounter” exhibit at SeaWorld San Diego. Watch a Live Cam of the Most Entertaining Penguins Ever – it’s totes adorbs.

2. I’M READING: I am highly addicted to Entertainment Weekly. My brother is a subscriber so I collect them in bulk once he’s done. This week’s cover – Dark Shadows. Adore Johnny & Tim Burton. Cannot wait to catch this flick!

3. I’M PINNING: Mother’s Day is around the corner and I’m scouring for the best card and gift ideas!

4. I’M LISTENING TO: Don’t Carry it All, The Decemberists. The hus turned me on to this tune, he says I should really listen to the words. Hint taken.

5. I’M EATING: Pistachios! I hope there isn’t like a Dateline hidden camera in my kitchen watching me sneak these by the handful. This tiny green nut is tasty and bonus – packed with amazing nutrition.

What’s your favorite thing to stuff in a piñata?

Holy, it’s almost may!

1. I’M WATCHING: All the Nashville Rock N Roll Half Marathon coverage. Let’s ALL give a big GOOD LUCK to Norak! She’s running the race this weekend. I mean, how kick a** is my mom?? SQUEAL!

2. I’M READING: 8 Well-Meaning Workout Strategies that Backfire over at FabFitFun. If you haven’t checked out Guliana Rancic’s site, where she shares the latest and greatest in beauty, fitness, diet and wellness, you need to head over – like now!

3. I’M PINNING: Blame Betty Crocker. We had a nice Twitter convo yesterday and I am in the mood for baking! Strawberry Margarita Cake – too soon for Cinco de Mayo? NEVER! Gracias!

4. I’M LISTENING TO: I hung up on Carly. Call me NEVER. I just got a listen to a new Maroon 5 song – Payphone ft. Wiz Khalifa. Kinda like it!

5. I’M EATING: Blame Italy, but I am on a total pesto kick. Can’t get enough of the fresh green stuff.

Plans for the weekend??

And a lucky Friday the 13th to you!!

1. I’M WATCHING: This amazing short video on a friendly cycling competition. UD Cycling Classic – “Red Paper Heart was asked by Urbandaddy to create an installation for the E2NY Music and Arts festival this summer. They proposed a head to head bike race inspired by Goldsprints, but with more of a design focus. They mapped forests, foxbears and orbs to the speed of the bikes, giving the riders a sense of their speed”.

2. I’M READING: Is Sugar Toxic?. Runner’s World has a blood sugar raising article on the links between sugar and disease. This coming after my chocolate bunny hangover is the last thing I need to hear…again.

3. I’M PINNING: Bit by the travel bug. The husband and I have glorious plans to head off again to Italy. This time, we’re hiking/drinking our way through Cinque Terre. Cannot. Wait.

4. I’M LISTENING TO: Fun – We Are Young. This song makes me feel like I’m a full-on singer. I belt it like Babs. How can this not be on your workout playlist?

5. I’M EATING: Out of a tagine! It’s our new little cooking weapon. It looks like a gigantic “Sorry” game piece but it’s actually quite tasty. Consider it the Crockpot’s Moroccan cousin.

Make it a Friday Six by telling me what you are digging!

1. I’M WATCHING: ABC’s Modern Family. I have seen the future of what will happen when we have kids.

2. I’M READING: Tina Fey Bossypants. I have wanted to read this book for a bit and to be honest, I’m halfway through and don’t really have the drive to keep on reading. Parts are amazing and other parts have me glazing over. Shame really, because I’m a huge fan of her writing on SNL and 30 Rock.

3. I’M PINNING: I’m in a fitness frame of mind this week. Via Shape Magazine Fave Fitness Swag, this crossbody gym bag from Old Navy. Have you seen Old Navy’s activewear lately? They have stepped up their game! Affordable and functional.

4. I’M LISTENING TO: Grouplove – Naked Kids. Roll the windows down and turn it up.

5. I’M EATING:Fruit by the truckload. I went on a fruit bender at the grocery store this week. Everything looks so fresh and seasonal. I’m just saying…if Ms Chiquita happens to go missing…

What was your favourite spring break song? If you say Sisqo, you are automatically disqualified.

Spring fever is here, and there are loads of things to be enjoying.

1. I’M WATCHING: Giuliana & Bill. Trash. I know, but I love her, and I’m invested in this relationship. It’s the three of us now. I want a baby for her and for them to eat pasta and speak in cute accents forever. This kind of TV only happens when the hus is on business; see if he leaves me alone again.

2. I’M READING: 5 Languages of love. Well, technically I’ve read it before, but as I get ready for my brother’s wedding and think about a speech, this book has some great mantras to live by and inspire.

3. I’M PINNING: Everything from summer outfits to sweet recipes, but as of late some words to live by.

4. I’M LISTENING TO: Emeli Sande,’Next To Me.‘ Did I mention I’ve been alone all week? Let the chick flag fly!

5. I’M EATING: Call me a five-year-old but I have been seriously craving cereal. Anything from healthy granola to Fruity Pebbles. Moo moo juice and cereal has my number. If I could get my hands on something with marshmallows I’d be in hog heaven.

Show of hands: have you had cereal for dinner once in the past 3 months?

I am upside down this week, literally. Bring on the weekend.

1. I’M WATCHING: Senna. It’s a remarkable documentary about a Brazilian Formula One driver. The film is produced in a truly unique way, and the film will put you through every emotion from happiness to anger. You don’t have to be a racing fan to appreciate the story of a true competitor.

2. I’M READING: I’ve been browsing news and sports websites following the drama surrounding cycling pro Alberto Contador. Since officials stripped Contador of his 2010 Tour De France title the entire cycling world is upside down again with accusations around athlete doping. An individual is at fault, but as a whole this does not help the cycling sport gain popularity or respect. As spectators, we want to see strong competition and rivalry but only when all athletes are playing fair and on the same level. Beat me at my best.

3. I’M LUSTING AFTER: Patagonia Capilene baselayers. I cannot get enough of my Patagonia baselayer. Breathable, light and soft. These are perfect for the spring mix of temperatures where you aren’t sure how hot or cold you’re going to be.

4. I’M LISTENING TO: Maverick Sabre,’No One.‘ You have to listen to understand the sound. Groovy, funky, chill, and killer vocals.

5. I’M (already) DROOLING OVER: Well it’s not chocolate this week, but it’s close. Have you heard about the NEW Multi Grain Peanut Butter Cheerios!? Dear Dietitians, don’t ruin this for me.

What flavor Cheerios would you make?

Thank you all very much for your support this week with the announcement of my 29 Day Challenge. Day 3 and the hardest part is…the sugar. I knew it would be tough; I am like those rodents they tell you about in lab experiments. I have, however, introduced even more fruits and veggies in my diet. Come to find out, the strawberries don’t really take anything like Starburst’s interpretation — kidding.

1. I’M LISTENING TO: Kelly Clarkson’s cover of Sara Bareilles “Gravity.” We’re going to slow it down….

2. I’M READING: Chelsea Handler’s Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang. For some, she’s too vulgar. For others, she’s not funny at all. For me, I can appreciate her humor.

3. I’M LUSTING AFTER: After 82Go Water that iRunner introduced me to. Um, these things are simply amazeballs. All other running or endurance races should be paying attention – I have seen the future of water and it tastes good. Somewhere plastic cups are crying. And your face and shirt are dry during a race!

4. I’M WISHING: Whatever happens with Mr Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil, we get an early spring!

5. I’M (already) DROOLING OVER: My new winter booties. Sorel’s are a close cousin to the Ugg. It was a musn’t have that I had-to-have when we were in France. They are seriously a fantastic all-weather boot. I promise not to pull a B Spears and wear them in the spring in a jean mini skirt, but if I could and not be judged…

Do you believe that Phil was correct this year in saying 6 more weeks of winter?Anyone know his track record?

This week went by way to quick. Blinked and it was Friday — not that I’m complaining. What’s on my Friday Five this week? Oh, have I got some goodies for y’all!

1. I’M LISTENING TO: Tracy Chapman, Fast Car. Yep, we hopped in the way back machine for this radio gem. This song reminds me of a certain fave person and every time I hear it I want to start jumping. It’s a great running song as well, I promise!

2. I’M READING: The truth? Sermon notes from a church back home. I won’t get all preachy on you, but I believe everyone should keep their foundation strong.

3. I’M LUSTING AFTER: TOMS Ballet Flats. Be still my heart. Does it get any more comfortable? Does cupid deliver?

4. I’M WISHING: That everyone would calm down about Paula Deen’s diabetes announcement and learn the facts. Educate yourself before your wreck yourself.

5. I’M (already) DROOLING OVER: Mini Cadbury Creme Eggs. Plus side, you don’t feel as guilty eating a few smaller eggs. Down side, you end up eating too mini many and you might as well should have gone for the whole egg.

What’s one of your favorite old school songs?
