Maybe it’s just Heather and I, but the Tour De France is something of pure athletic awesomeness that has me in absolute awe. In fact, about 5 years ago I was watching Lance in The Tour and he’s what inspired me to try distance running. How’s that for random!
If you don’t follow The Tour you probably are aware of all the doping scandals that plague the sport. Well one pro cyclist finally spoke out in a way that I actually fully applaud – minus the colorful language.
At a recent press conference cyclist Bradley Wiggins was asked how he felt about the accusations that he and his teammates use performance enhancing drugs. His thoughts…
“It justifies their own bone-idleness because they can’t ever imagine applying themselves to do anything in their lives. It’s easy for them to sit under a pseudonym on Twitter and write that sort of sh*t, rather than get off their arses in their own lives and apply themselves and work hard at something and achieve something. And that’s ultimately it.”
Olympic athletes, pros, they all apply themselves. Sacrificing a great deal to their sport for the chance to be champions. In our daily lives we might apply ourselves to work hard at our jobs, be a good friend, or workout to stay fit. But at the end of the day, you have to truly apply yourself and focus on nothing but your goal in order to achieve greatness. Those simple words struck a chord in me. I can apply myself to achieve more.
What have you buckled down to get done?
